Commercial Gas Safety ACS

To carry out commercial gas work an operative must first hold the appropriate certificates of competence.  Below are listed all of the assessments available and what they involve.  Before assessment on any of the appliances or pipework a candidate must first hold the core commercial certificate of competence which can be achieved either by taking the full core assessment or for those that hold core domestic gas safety by completing a changeover assessment

Most candidates opt to attend our optional revision sessions prior to taking any of the following assessments. Whilst all of the following assessments can be taken without revision, we find that in a rapidly changing industry revision classes are an essential pre-requisite for all but the most up-to-date informed engineer.

Our courses cover all aspects of each assessment and are competitively priced.

  • COCN1 - Core Commercial Gas Safety
  • CoDNC1 - Change over Core Gas Safety Domestic to Commercial
  • TPCP1A - Testing & Purging Pipework upto 6” (150mm)
  • TPCP1 - Testing & Purging Pipework over 6” (150mm)
  • ICPN1 - Installation of Pipework in excess of 35mm
  • CORT1 - Overhead Radiant Tube Heaters
  • CDGA1 - Direct Fired Commercial Appliances
  • CIGA1 - Indirect Fired Commercial Appliances
  • ICAE1 - Installation of First Fix Commercial Appliances
  • CBHP1 - Commission Service & Repair of Boosters/Compressors

Before taking an appliance or pipework assessment the candidate must first hold either Core Commercial Gas Safety or a changeover Core Gas Safety Domestic to Commercial.

Once this has been achieved, any of the remaining assessments above can be taken.

MAIN COMMERCIAL CATEGORIES

Core Commercial Gas Safety – COCN1

Assessment Duration : 2 days (One day theory and one day practical)

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in Core Commercial gas work by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

This gas safety assessment comprises of 12 core competences:-

  • Gas Safety Legislation
  • Gas Emergency Actions and Procedures
  • Characteristics of Combustion and the Use of Flue Analysis Equipment
  • Commercial Ventilation Requirements
  • Installation of Pipework and Fittings (up to and including 35mm in size
  • Checking and/or Setting Commercial Supply and Meter Regulators
  • Identification of Unsafe Situations and the Use of Emergency Notices and Warning Labels
  • The Operation of and Positioning of Emergency Isolation Controls and Valves
  • Checking and Setting Commercial Appliances/Equipment Burner Pressures up to and Including 21 mbar
  • The Operation and Checking of Appliance Gas Safety Devices and Controls
  • Commercial Appliance Flueing Requirements
  • Re-establish Existing Gas Supply and Relight Commercial Appliances

Pre-requisite to this Assessment : There are no pre-requisites for this Core Commercial Gas Safety Assessment but this assessment.

Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low Pressure

Commercial Gas Installations – TPCP1A

Assessment duration : 1 days (Theory and practical assessments)

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the work of testing and direct purging of pipework (or sections of pipework) downstream of a primary meter control valve having:-

  • A volume of not exceeding 1cubic metre including any meter and any allowance for fittings.
  • An operating pressure not exceeding 21 mbar (nominal) at the outlet of the primary meter regulator
  • A diameter not exceeding 150 mm
  • The operating pressure at the inlet of the primary meter regulator does not exceed 75 mbar

This assessment will not assess testing for soundness and direct purging outside the range listed above and it may be preferable for operatives to instead undertake category TPCP1 below.

Pre-requisite to this assessment: Before this assessment can be undertaken, the candidate must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment.

Testing & Purging Commercial Installation

Pipework (not exceeding 7 bar in pressure for

natural gas) – TPCP1

Assessment duration : 1 days (Theory and practical assessments)

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment, in the work of testing and purging of all sizes of pipework commencing downstream of the meter control valve to the position of usage or the termination of the installation pipework and for installations without meter will apply to all pipework downstream of the emergency control valve.

Pre-requisite to this assessment: Before this assessment can be undertaken, the candidate must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.

Installation First Fix of Commercial Pipework

< 75 mbar – ICPN1

Assessment duration : up to ½ day (Theory and practical assessments)

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment, in the first fixing of commercial installation pipework, steel, copper and polythene and fittings above 35mm (1”) up to 150 mm (6”) bore.

Pre-requisite to this assessment: Before this assessment may be undertaken, the candidate most hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.

Installation First Fix of Commercial Appliances or

Equipment – ICAE1
