 ACS Domestic Gas Safety - Overview

The first stage is to undertake the ACS - Core Gas Safety - CCN1 assessment. Following successful completion of this you only need to undertake the relevant appliance assessment for the types of appliances you wish to work on.

N.B If for example you choose to only take the domestic cooking appliance assessment (CKR1) then you can only legally work on domestic cooking .

Having completed your ACS - Core Gas Safety - CCN1 assessment you can then choose to changeover to another discipline e.g. ACS - Changeover Domestic to Commercial - CoDNC1 . This would enable you to extend your work capability to include commercial appliances. For more information on changeover courses, see the commercial sections .

Technician working on gas burnerIf however you want to work on a wider range of domestic appliances then you are eligible to be assessed on one or more domestic appliances which are outlined below.

Most candidates opt to attend our optional revision sessions prior to taking any of the following assessments. Whilst all of the following assessments can be taken without revision, we find that in a rapidly changing industry revision classes are an essential pre-requisite for all but the most up-to-date informed engineer.

These assessments have been designed to test competence in Domestic Natural Gas Safety work by both written and practical assessments in accordance with the requirements of the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives.

  • CKR 1 - Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas cooking appliances
  • HTR 1 - Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic open, balanced and fan assisted flued gas fires and wall heaters
  • CENWAT 1 - Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas fired central heating/hot water boilers and circulators up to 70kw nett including instantaneous water heaters
  • DAH 1 - Install, exchange, disconnect, service, repair, breakdown and commission domestic gas fired ducted air heaters of rated input not exceeding 70kw Nett
  • MET 1 - Install, exchange, remove and commission domestic gas meters
