C&G 6189 NVQ Dip. in Plumbing & Heating

The City & Guilds NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating 6189 has been release by City & Guilds as a replacement for the City & Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate in Plumbing and City & Guilds 6089 NVQ in Plumbing. The 6189 plumbing course has been designed for those people wishing to enter the plumbing industry and gain their full NVQ Diploma in Plumbing & Heating at level 2 to become a fully qualified plumber with little or no trade/plumbing experience.

• No previous plumbing experience required

Duration: 8 weeks

The course is full time (Monday to Friday) for 8 weeks for a candidate to complete the full NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating a comprehensive portfolio of evidence is required which is carried out on the course.

Course Content:

This qualification is a mixture of practical workshop and classroom training and will cover all the following units:

• Safe Working Practices
• Communication Skills
• Environmental Protection Issues
• Basic Scientific Principles
• Site Preparation
• Cold Water Application
• Hot Water Application
• Central Heating Systems Wet (no gas or oil is involved at this stage)
• Above Ground Sanitation

The Training in all of the above units will be followed by assessments and will contain both closed book and open book on-line examinations and practical assessments undertaken within the training workshop.

All practical assessments are recorded on your personal portfolio where all evidence is logged and signed off by our assessors and internal verifier, several of the tasks are photographed and kept in your portfolio as evidence of you undertaking the work tasks required. This ensures that the entire scheme from written exams to practical tasks is carried out to the stringent rules laid down by City & Guilds.

Throughout your training Gastec will provide you with all the tools, materials and study aids required for you to successfully complete your assessments. However you are requested to supply your own safety boots and protective work wear such as overalls, as there is elements of heat and dirty work involved.
