Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

A career change is a major decision. We have enjoyed watching many of our customer develop exciting and lucrative careers in the utilities sector . Along the way we’ve answered many question and provided advice on the best training paths. These are just a few of the most common questions we get.

Don’t forget we are waiting for your call and look forward to providing the best information to support your important career decisions.

Why should I enroll with Gastec ?

Because if you’ve read this far you’re probably serious about a new career. Gastec gives you all the facts. Gastec will never mislead you and we consider our training and support the very best available. We do not promise “free lunches or tool boxes”. We only deliver what you ask for. A dedicated course giving you the knowledge and information relevant to your learning needs in a friendly professional manner with emphasis on quality.

I am a complete beginner - is this course for me ?

Our course is specifically designed for people who are seeking a career change. We start with the very basics and give you a solid foundation for developing your career in the utilities sector.

I want to be a self employed and start my own business - can I do this ?

Our course is aimed at preparing you with the skills and certification needed for paid employment or self employment . Our courses cover the technical part of your profession – you would of course need 3rd party advice and guidance in terms of the legal and financial aspects of running your own business.

When could I begin my course ?

We run the courses every month so we have spaces available throughout the year. We do limit course class size which allows our trainers to give quality time to all trainees so get in touch to check on availability.

Why is your course only 4 weeks compared to colleges that take 3 years ?

Our course covers the same syllabus and the same qualifications. However, our course is full time 5 days a week and also our students are all career changers rather than school leavers so we can proceed at a much faster pace.

We also have small class sizes and most importantly because each student is paying a fee the dedication and attention of students is very high.

How long will it take to get my qualifications ?

Our Course is 4 weeks full time followed by a further short duration for your work placement dependant on the types of work carried out. Once the Assessments have been successfully completed you will receive your qualifications in about 20 days.

What if I fail an assessment ?

You will be allowed to re-sit an assessment as many times as is necessary. if you fail an assessment  you may retake it but a charge will be made for the additional time required. However please note that we will not put you into an assessment until we think you will succeed.

When will I be able to start working as a Gas Operative ?

You can start work straight after you have finished your assessments provided it is with an employer. If you wish to go self employed then you will need to apply to Gas Safe Register for registration with them. You will possess all the relevant qualifications to satisfy them on registration.

I am a plumber working without any qualifications - what are my options ?

If you wish to get ACS accreditation you will be considered a New Entrant and will need attend a recognised training program such as ours and work with a gas registered company to develop your portfolio, Look on the bright side, spending 4 weeks with us is better and cheaper than 3 years at a college.

I live too far to travel every day, do you have accommodation?

We don’t provide accomodation at our Milton Keynes centre but there is a wide range of accomodation in the area at various price points.  Check our hotels page for more information on some of the choices in the area.
